AMD Introduced Radeon RX 6000 Series

During the special event AMD officially presented the new generation of graphics solutions based on RDNA 2 architecture; Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT graphics cards. The new series promise almost double performance advantage over previous-generation graphics cards. Therefore, the new flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT card, according to the company, will be a comprehensive solution for games in 4K resolution.

The Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards are built on the new RDNA 2 architecture, which is also used in next-generation gaming consoles. As AMD itself says, thanks to the new architecture, the flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card is up to twice faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which used the first RDNA architecture. And when comparing the Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, new generation shows a 54% advantage in terms of Watts/Performance. It is important to note that these both cards are based on 7nm chips.

During the presentation, AMD compared the performance of the Radeon RX 6800 XT with the GeForce RTX 3080. The presented data allows us to conclude that AMD's sub-flagship graphics card will be able to offer a comparable or even better frame rate with a slightly lower power consumption in some situations. Radeon RX 6800 was compared with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and showed a convincing improvement. As for the flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT, this AMD GPU shows comparable performance to the GeForce RTX 3090. Among the games in which AMD conducted comparisons of its own novelties with the NVIDIA Ampere family, there are games with ray tracing support, in which the representatives of the Radeon RX 6000 series look as convincing. As mentioned during the presentation, AMD graphics cards received a special fixed ray accelator engine, so they are well optimized for calculations of realistic lighting, shadows and reflections in real time using DXR.

AMD Infinity Cache technology provides high speed gaming performance at a relatively low memory bus width; a high-performance, latest-level data cache. This 128MB cache is placed directly in the GPU and reduces latency and power consumption compared to traditional architectural solutions. In addition, AMD introduced a special Smart Access Memory technology, which provides faster access to GDDR6 graphics memory for Ryzen family processors.

Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards support PCIe 4.0 interface and are equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. The company emphasizes that the new graphics cards have a length of 267 mm and are equipped with two standard 8-pin power connectors. This makes it easy for gamers to upgrade their existing systems with 650–750W power supplies.

The Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics will be released on November 18th with a recommended card price of $579 and $649. In addition, Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT graphics cards developed by AMD, sales of the flagship graphics card Radeon RX 6900 XT  will begin on December 8, the price will be $ 999.
