If anyone thinks Intel is worried about competition in the market with AMD and Apple, they are not. Intel Vice President Gregory Bryant said Tuesday that the tech giant welcomes competition because having it basically means making money and that the PC business is thriving.
«We've always said that only the paranoid survive, & ;said Bryant, head of the Client Computing Group (CCG), which is primarily responsible for laptops, desktops and workstations. & ;And I take all competitors, whether Apple or other rivals, Qualcomm, MediaTek or AMD, very seriously». «Always when you have a growing good business, there will be competition, & ; noted Bryant in a conversation with investment bank UBS and Yahoo! Finance. & ;We're fully committed to competition and growth. And we're pleased with our work and our roadmap». The company's roadmap includes the release in the first half of next year of Intel Tiger Lake-H processors for notebooks along with Intel Rocket Lake-S chips for desktops. Then, according to Bryant, in the second half of 2021 it will be the turn of the twelfth-generation Alder Lake processors. Although Bryant did not elaborate on future Tiger Lake-H chips, it will likely be a more powerful version of the 10th-generation Tiger Lake-U chips. According to him, the Tiger Lake chips have exceeded expectations: their sales were 30% higher than predicted. Rocket Lake is expected to have a more modern core architecture but will be produced using Intel's longstanding 14-nm process. But the Alder Lake processors should be 10nm and have an unusual configuration of large and small cores, like some Arm chips. Intel once rejected such a solution, but now it seems to be back to square one. In any case, the computer market is rebounding amidst a pandemic.
