Chinese 4-core Loongson processor with proprietary architecture introduced - claimed performance level of first AMD Ryzen

Chinese company Loongson has formally presented 3A5000/LS3A5000 processor based on its own proprietary LoongArch architecture. The product is intended to be used in personal computers for consumer market.

The chip is claimed to provide 50 % more performance than the previous generation & ; LS3A4000 solution. Meanwhile, power consumption was reduced by about 30 %. The 3A5000/LS3A5000 has four processing cores clocked at 2.3–2.5GHz. Each core combines four arithmetic logic units (ALUs) and two 256-bit vector processing units. The LoongArch GS464V instruction set is involved.

On the whole, as noted, the new Chinese development provides approximately the same level of performance as the AMD Ryzen first generation processors. In order to reduce power consumption, dynamic frequency and voltage controls are implemented. In addition, the product is able to dynamically disable unused blocks. New chip has two DDR4-3200 RAM controllers with ECC support and four HyperTransport 3.0 controllers. Chinese SM2, SM3 and SM4 encryption standards are also supported. The 3A5000/LS3A5000 processor will ship mainly to Chinese PC makers;
