AMD Athlon 200GE Review - You Can Run Games But…

    Many reviews or videos about setting up a PC with the AMD Athlon 200GE have been misleading users so far. Of course, there are some truly explained reviews around there, but still, we encounter so much disinformation about this processor in particular.

What are we talking about?

    We are talking about the reviews that suggest you can get a decent gaming performance from a system built around the AMD Athlon 200GE, even if it’s 2020 now. For experienced PC users and gamers, it’s ridiculous at the beginning. So this article will cover some straight and basic facts on these issues. We are not going to tell you that the AMD Athlon 200GE is a “terrible CPU”, we are just going to try to inspire your thoughts on the processor. Because according to your needs, the Athlon 200GE could be a perfect choice.

Let’s get to the point quickly…

AMD Athlon 200GE (APU) Specifications

    First of all, the producer accepts the fact that this is a low-end, entry-level processor. And they wisely added an integrated GPU. This technology’s called Accelerated Processing Unit. Some experienced and elder users would recall it was the Fusion technology in the past. By building a processor with that kind of technology, the producer is also indicating something. They are trying to tell us that this processor is for less heavy work. Yes, there’s the Zen architecture behind it but one cannot simply build a super powerful gaming PC with this processor.

    Therefore, the AMD Athlon 200GE is for daily, light work. Imagine a mini PC for you to watch Netflix or whatever video, the movie you like. This processor would give you a hell of a performance for those tasks. You can also do your work concerning MS Office or similar programs. No problem with 200GE. It is cheap. It consumes less energy. It is a perfect budget processor for regular daily use.

    “Some people on the internet may claim that you can get good gaming performance with the support of a GPU like GTX 1050”

Can it be true?

We tried to run a few popular games on a system as such;

  • AMD Athlon 200GE
  • GTX 1050
  • 8 GB System Memory

Now, we’ll show you some key results;

    Battlefield 5: Even with the lowest settings, you get 30-40 FPS. You will experience many bottlenecks for almost every single core. Your GTX 1050 will run at %95 and sometimes it’ll become volatile. So, running Battlefield 5 is like tiny chaos for your system now.

FortNite: You still have the bottlenecks. Your GPU is running at %90+ but you have 100-120 FPS now.

You get the point...

    In conclusion, the AMD Athlon 200GE is a perfect choice if you are going to use it for moderate tasks. And it’s a very cost-efficient product when you use it wisely. You don’t need to build a fancy system around it. It performs very well for many daily tasks you need. Again, the AMD Athlon 200GE is not a poor CPU. Actually, it is better than the Intel processors of the same segment. You just need to know what to expect from it.
