AMD unveils MI300 server APU for data centers - with five times more performance per watt

AMD unveils MI300 server APU for data centers - with five times more performance per watt

AMD unveils MI300 server APU for data centers - with five times more performance per watt

AMD has unveiled the latest all-in-one solution for data center servers - the APU MI300 combines CPU and GPU modules in a single product and uses the latest CDNA 3 graphics architecture to boost performance per watt several times over.
AMD claims that the new model is five times more productive than solutions based on CDNA 2 architecture.Image source: AMDThe new AMD solution uses cores similar to those used by NVIDIA tensor variants, unlike consumer graphics processors.
This allows about four times the performance per watt, and architectural improvements increase this figure to 5X.
However, real-world performance in the field remains to be seen.In addition to performance and power efficiency gains, CDNA 3 includes the fourth-generation Infinity Fabric and the next-generation Infinity Cache.
As expected, CDNA 3 will use a 5nm processor, presumably TSMC N5 or N5P.The CDNA 3 architecture also helps move from the coherent, separate cache for CPU and GPU used with CDNA 2 to a unified architecture.
This is a critical improvement because data centers use a significant amount of energy to transfer data within a single system, and getting rid of the need for redundant copies helps boost overall performance.Image source: AMDAMD Instinct MI300 combines both GPUs and CPUs in one package.
The company calls it the first data center APU.
It is noteworthy that the company did not use the term APU with Ryzen series chipsets equipped with integrated graphics processors, and it seems that it intends to return to the use of the term, but with the CPU cores on the architecture of Zen 4 and GPU with CDNA 3.MI300 is an advanced solution that combines in one package CPU, GPU, cache and HMB-memory.
Apparently, we're talking about four CPU/GPU chips combined with HBM memory. The MI300 is likely to be widely used in supercomputers like El Capitan.
Unlike the Frontier supercomputer using Zen 3 EPYC Trento processors, in which each 64-core processor is linked to four GPUs, the El Capitan solution could consist exclusively of MI300 APUs.Image source: AMDThe MI300 will result in an eight-fold increase in system learning performance compared to the MI250X, according to AMD.
The latter contains a pair of graphics processing crystals (GCDs) in a single package, while the MI300 will likely have three graphics crystals on CDNA 3 as well as a single CPU crystal on the Zen 4 architecture.
This combination by itself will presumably increase the graphics potential by 50%, even without taking into account architectural improvements.

AMD introduced 6nm Mendocino mobile chips with Zen 2 cores and RDNA 2 graphics for affordable notebooks

AMD introduced 6nm Mendocino mobile chips with Zen 2 cores and RDNA 2 graphics for affordable notebooks

AMD introduced 6nm Mendocino mobile chips with Zen 2 cores and RDNA 2 graphics for affordable notebooks

AMD today introduced not only the Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors, but also entry-level notebook solutions.
In the fourth quarter, AMD will release 6nm Mendocino mobile processors combining the Zen 2 architecture and integrated RDNA 2 graphics.
Image source: AMDIn view of the scale of AMD's assault on its main competitor's position in the processor segment, even such bizarre combinations of innovations should be received favorably by the market.
Laptops based on Mendocino processors will be able to get into the $399 to $699 price segment, offering Zen 2 computing architecture, RDNA 2 graphics architecture and a combination of four processing cores with eight threads.
The Mendocino processor crystals will be manufactured using TSMC's 6nm technology.AMD now offers Dali and Picasso processors based on the Zen and Zen+ processor architectures and Vega graphics in the entry-level mobile segment.
The novelty also offers not the most recent processor architecture (Zen 2 came out in 2019), but still it has a much higher performance.
Also to the benefit of performance will be the presence of modern integrated graphics RDNA 2.
AMD does not specify exactly how many graphics cores will have new products, hardly 12, as in the Radeon 680M senior chips Ryzen 6000.
Note also that the chips Mendocino will offer support for LPDDR5 memory, which has a very high speed, which also will benefit productivity.Notebooks based on Mendocino processors will be able to offer more than ten hours of battery life for mixed use scenarios.
Both Microsoft Windows and Google Chrome OS will be offered as the operating system.
Characteristically, AMD already offers a combination of Zen 2 computing architecture and 6nm manufacturing technology, as Van Gogh hybrid processors are produced with this recipe and are used in Valve's Steam Deck gaming consoles.

AMD Instinct MI300 will be the world's largest APU with integrated Zen 4 processor

AMD Instinct MI300 will be the world's largest APU with integrated Zen 4 processor

AMD Instinct MI300 will be the world's largest APU with integrated Zen 4 processor

AMD first introduced the Instinct MI100 computing GPU based on CDNA architecture in 2020 as a competitor to Nvidia A100 to accelerate high performance computing (HPC) workloads.
Later, the CDNA 2-based Instinct MI200 and MI250X also appeared.
Now some information has emerged about the upcoming Instinct MI300 based on the CDNA 3 architecture.Advertisement The information comes from AdoredTV, which has obtained an internal slide detailing the Instinct MI300.
According to the leaked slide, the Instinct MI300 will actually be an APU with a Zen 4 architecture processor working together with a GPU and shared HBM memory.
Insider @Komachi_Ensaka first tweeted about a big APU for the MI200 in December 2019, followed by a September 2021 tweet from @ExecuFix pointing to a new socket called SF5 supporting the MI300.
However, AMD has been considering the concept of a megaexascale APU with 32 CPU cores, a GPU and DRAM memory since 2015 and even published an article titled \"Design and Analysis of an APU for Exascale Computing\" in 2017. The recently leaked slide correlates well with the above information.
Zen 4 and CDNA 3-based APUs are expected to be completed by the end of May, with the first working sample in labs expected by the third quarter.
This would make it the largest exascale x86 APU for high-performance computing and data centers. While this information is likely true, it is unclear whether AMD will build all CDNA 3 gas pedals as APUs or produce GPUs and APUs separately.

AMD will release the 4800S Desktop Kit platform with a complete Radeon RX 6600 next year

AMD will release the 4800S Desktop Kit platform with a complete Radeon RX 6600 next year

AMD will release the 4800S Desktop Kit platform with a complete Radeon RX 6600 next year

At the disposal of VideoCardz appeared photos of the future AMD 4800S Desktop Kit computer, which includes an unknown AMD 4800S processor. Information about this device is still scarce. Perhaps this system is built on another AMD hybrid processor, which was originally intended for use as part of a gaming console.

The source of the photos said almost nothing about the characteristics of this platform. We only know that the processor at its core uses the Zen 2 architecture. At the moment it is not clear whether AMD 4800S is a variant of the already known chip AMD 4700S, but with a higher clock speed, or it is a completely different processor. Recall that the hybrid AMD 4700S, which is distributed through OEM manufacturers, is the desktop version of the processor from the PlayStation 5 game console. It is possible that the AMD 4800S is the desktop version of the APU for one of the Xbox Series gaming consoles. However, this cannot be confirmed at this time.

If the specified specifications are correct, there are differences between AMD 4700S and 4800S. For example, the latter supports PCI-Express 4.0 interface and the 4800S Desktop Kit motherboard is equipped with such a connector. The 4700S, on the other hand, only works with PCIe 2.0 interface. Moreover, if the lower version can only work with entry-level graphics cards (e.g. Radeon RX 550), then 4800S supports more powerful gas pedals. For example, the basic 4800S Desktop Kit includes Radeon RX 6600 video card. It should also be noted the presence of two M.2 slots in the platform: one for installing NVMe-drive, the second & ; for Wi-Fi module. No less important detail is support for cooling system for Socket AM4 processor socket. As writes VideoCardz, AMD 4800S Desktop Kit system will be released in the first quarter of 2022. It will be manufactured by MSI. The kit will include a PowerColor Radeon RX 6600 gas pedal. Nothing is yet known about the plans to release other versions of the system (without a graphics card), as well as the price of this kit.

AMD Rembrandt eight-core mobile chip on Zen3+ architecture first time in benchmark

AMD Rembrandt eight-core mobile chip on Zen3+ architecture first time in benchmark

AMD Rembrandt eight-core mobile chip on Zen3+ architecture first time in benchmark

First tracks of upcoming Ryzen 6000-series mobile chips codenamed Rembrandt were found in UserBenchmark database. The AMD processor, codenamed 100-000000518-41_N, made its appearance here. The chip operates in the frequency range from 3.9 to 4.1 GHz.

The fact that the copy belongs to the new generation of mobile processors is indicated by the fact that it uses the FP7 processor socket, which, according to rumors, will appear just with the new 6nm Rembrandt processors. In addition, the specified OPN code of the processor has not been noted anywhere before, which also hints at the fact that the UserBenchmark database has the first information about one of the representatives of the upcoming generation of mobile APU from AMD.

Engineering sample of AMD Rembrandt series mobile processor

According to the test results, the said processor scored 111 points in the single-core test, 222 points in the dual-core test and 740 points in the octa-core test. Thus, in its current state, it is slower than the current Ryzen 7 5800H generation Cezanne, which scores about 132, 256 and 875 points respectively in the same tests. Together with the code of the processor in the database also marked the identification number (1CFA 0004) of its integrated graphics core on RDNA 2 architecture, which was accompanied by 512 MB of RAM. The processor was used as part of some Corsair system codenamed Xenomorph. What this device is & ; it is unknown. Perhaps we are talking about a PC model, as the company is not engaged in the production of laptops so far.

The information also reports that the system used a single Corsair DDR5-4800 memory module with CL40 timings as RAM. AMD Rembrandt & ; expected APU series for mobile gaming and workstations on Zen3+ architecture, which will be produced using 6nm process technology.

AMD processor roadmap (Source: VideoCardz)

The new series is attributed to the use of an integrated graphics subsystem based on RDNA 2 architecture, support for PCIe 4.0 interface and RAM of the new DDR5 standard. According to the latest rumors, mass production of Rembrandt series processors has already started. Their announcement is expected at the CES 2022 electronics show.

Systems on discarded "console" AMD 4700S processors may appear in Russia

Systems on discarded "console" AMD 4700S processors may appear in Russia

AMD has registered several models of AMD 4700S platform in the base of Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). This fact may mean that some desktop systems based on the lquo;console» chip, currently available only through Chinese OEMs, will appear in other markets, including Russia, in the near future.

To recap, the AMD 4700S processor comes as part of a Mini-ITX form factor motherboard and is based on the Zen 2 architecture. It has eight cores with a frequency up to 3.2 GHz, capable of handling up to 16 virtual threads. The chip has 8 MB of L3 cache memory and 4 MB of L2 cache memory. The graphics core integrated into the processor is disabled.

There is one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, but only with four dedicated lines. In other words, it is not possible to use high-performance graphics cards here. AMD itself recommends using with Radeon 550, Radeon RX 550, Radeon RX 560, Radeon RX 570, Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 590 graphics cards, as well as models of GeForce GT 710, GeForce GT 1030, GeForce GTX 1050, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and GeForce GTX 1060 from NVIDIA.

The AMD 4700S platform is available in two configurations: with 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6 memory from SK Hynix. The AMD 4700S processor is mated to the AMD A77E Fusion Controller Hub (FCH) chipset. On the one hand, the registration of the AMD 4700S platform in the EEC database could mean that the company has accumulated enough defective PlayStation 5 processors to sell systems based on them outside of China.

On the other hand, the mere registration in this database does not necessarily indicate that the registered product will be on sale at all, as has been proven many times in the past.

Besides, one should take into account the fact that sales of various models of AMD 4700S-based desktop systems in China have only recently started. Totally, there are four AMD 4700S platform models registered in EEC database: 100-900000004, 100-190000004BOX, 100-900000005 and 100-190000005BOX. It is unknown at this time what the differences between them are. It is quite possible that versions 100-900000004 are equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, and variants 100-900000005 received 16 GB of memory of the same standard.

More than 80 models of desktop systems will be offered based on the AMD 4700S "console" chip

More than 80 models of desktop systems will be offered based on the AMD 4700S "console" chip

More than 80 models of desktop systems will be offered based on the AMD 4700S

First mentions about AMD 4700S mystery processor appeared at the end of April, by the beginning of May it was shown in photos as a part of ready motherboard, and by the beginning of July the first test results appeared. The closest thing the mysterious processor was to the chip underlying Sony's PlayStation 5 game console. AMD now claims that partners will build more than 80 different PC models based on the 4700S.

Tom’s Hardware resource continues to move at the forefront of covering the lifecycle of this unusual platform, publishing rare comments from AMD representatives on the fate of the unique product going forward. First, they report that sales of the respective systems will begin on June 24 of this year. Secondly, the number of models of desktop systems, using AMD 4700S as the basis, should exceed 80 pieces. It should be recalled that AMD 4700S is a highly integrated processor, it combines eight Zen 2 generation computing cores with support for 16 threads, and as system memory uses from 8 to 16 GB of GDDR6 type memory, capable of running at speeds up to 14 GHz. AMD 4700S chip has no built-in graphics core, so it may rely solely on discrete graphics in ready-made systems, and using PCI Express x4 2.0 interface. Openly to answer the question about the kinship of the AMD 4700S and PS5 game console chip, the company's representatives refused, but called it a unique solution, trying to avoid any mention of the Ryzen trademark. Since the set of systems based on the AMD 4700S will be determined by the company's partners, then the pricing policy will be formed by them. In the Asian market these systems are already priced from $320 to $700. How soon they will reach other regions, the source is not ready to predict.

AMD 4700S platform tested: processor from PS5 and 14GHz GDDR6 with consumption higher than Core i7-11700

AMD recently unveiled the AMD 4700S desktop platform with an octa-core hybrid processor. Although the manufacturer did not specify it, the underlying APU is supposedly a stripped-down hybrid processor from the latest generation of gaming consoles. Korean portal Bodnara has found out that the APU in AMD 4700S platform is a chip from PlayStation 5 game console.

South Korean resource got access to one of the samples of AMD 4700S platform and conducted a number of tests with it. AMD itself did not name detailed characteristics of the processor in the discussed system. The manufacturer only indicated that it uses an 8-core and 16-threaded chip on the Zen 2 architecture. Bodnara notes that structurally the chip is close to the models Ryzen 7 4700G and Ryzen 7 Pro 4750G generation Renoir with a frequency range of 3.6 to 4.4 GHz. However, the AMD 4700S has a disabled integrated graphics core, which very likely turned out to be defective. At the same time, the processor is incorrectly detected by CPU-Z program - it is indicated that the maximum frequency of the chip is 3.2 GHz.

Bodnara's reviewed instance of the platform had 8 GB of GDDR6 memory with an effective frequency of 14 GHz. The memory chips are soldered directly into the Mini-ITX form factor motherboard from the back.

In the platform, AMD 4700S hybrid chip is paired with AMD A77E Fusion Controller Hub (FCH) chipset. Notably, this chipset was used with the AMD A9-9820 processor, which is codenamed Durango and is at the core of the Xbox One game console. That's why it was initially mistakenly assumed that the AMD 4700S platform was related to the Xbox Series X or Series S. Now it is clear that AMD 4700S is a chip from the PlayStation 5, this conclusion can be made simply by its appearance.

As standard, AMD 4700S based system is equipped with a discrete graphics gas pedal AMD Radeon RX 550. Other video card models are also supported. Their list is available below. However, note that the PCIe x16 slot in the platform has only four PCIe 2.0 lines, so it is impossible to use high-performance GPU here.

The Koreans compared the AMD 4700S platform with an Intel Core i7-11700-based PC with integrated graphics. The AMD system performed quite well against the competitor, but its power consumption level was higher. For AMD platform it is recommended to use power supply with 250W or more.

Memory throughput test

Overwatch test results

Obviously, the AMD 4700S advantage in memory handling is due to GDDR6, and in graphics tests - to a discrete graphics card. But in general the AMD platform is designed for home or office use as part of a media center with Internet connection capabilities and is not designed for gamers.

AMD turned defective chips from Xbox Series X into 4700S desktop platform

AMD turned defective chips from Xbox Series X into 4700S desktop platform

AMD turned defective chips from Xbox Series X into 4700S desktop platform

AMD has unveiled the 4700S desktop platform with an eight-core hybrid processor. It is based on an APU designed for the Xbox Series X gaming consoles, but has not passed the quality test. About the preparation of such a platform was known before, but now its characteristics have been published on the manufacturer's web site.

The AMD 4700S platform is a «integrated» solution & ; almost everything you need is included in a mini-ITX format motherboard & ; processor, memory and cooling system. The processor has eight cores on Zen 2 architecture. Ryzen brand does not apply to it, but it has long been known that it & ; eight-core sixteen-threaded model with disabled (or defective) integrated graphics processor. Although AMD itself does not name detailed characteristics of the APU, in the benchmark Geekbench 5 already appeared information that the novelty has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz and the maximum & ; up to 4 GHz. The platform will come with 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM (whose speed is also unknown). Since AMD 4700S has no display outputs, a discrete graphics card must be connected to the platform. Just like regular mini-ITX motherboards, AMD 4700S has a PCIe x16 slot, but in this case it has only four PCIe 4.0 lanes. This in particular means that the list of suitable graphics cards is very short: AMD 4700S is compatible with Radeon 550, RX 550, RX 560, RX 570, RX 580 and RX 590 as well as NVIDIA GeForce GT 710, GT 1030, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060.

Additionally, there are two SATA III ports for drives, a Gigabit Ethernet port on the Asix AX88179 controller and three 3.5mm audio ports. The board has four USB Type-A ports, three second-generation USB 3.2 Type-A (up to 10Gbps) and one first-generation USB 3.2 (5Gbps) adapter to add additional ports if needed. Power is supplied via standard EPS connections of 24 and 8 pins. AMD recommends a power supply of at least 250W, recommended power & ; 300W. Power supply requirements will vary depending on the needs of the graphics card. The company has provided drivers only for Windows 10 & ; the AMD 4700S kit is incompatible with earlier versions of Microsoft's OS, as well as Linux. No price has been announced on the manufacturer's website. AMD provides the platform with a two-year warranty. According to some reports, the variant is already available in a Finnish store for the equivalent of $317.

Unrepresented AMD Ryzen 3 5300G hybrid processor appears on eBay

An AMD Ryzen 3 5300G quad-core hybrid processor based on the Zen 3 architecture has appeared on the eBay marketplace. The chip belongs to the desktop part of the Cezanne family, which AMD hasn't even officially introduced yet. Despite this fact, some sellers are already selling engineering samples of processors of this family. Earlier, for example, the same seller offered an eight-core Ryzen 7 5700G model;

Engineering sample Ryzen 3 5300G with identifier 100-000000262-30_Y has a base frequency of 3.5 GHz. The source of supply for the chip is unknown, but AMD and Intel routinely provide engineering samples to motherboard manufacturers as well as system integrators well in advance of the official release of the new processor series. The seller has priced the «engineer» at $177.

The product description initially stated that support for the processor was very limited, as many motherboards could not yet work with the Cezanne hybrid APU. He later added that the problem was the integrated graphics core, for which there was no proper driver, but one of the «indifferent fans» provided a beta driver. It is also offered along with the processor. In its current state, the AMD Ryzen 3 5300G engineering sample scores 570 points in the CPU-Z single-core test and 3003 points in the multi-core test. The vendor also provided test results for the chip in the Cinebench R15 and Cinebench R20 tests, but only in multicore mode. It scored 2,068 points in the former and 2,685 points in the latter & ; respectively.

He also posted a video showing the Ryzen 3 5300G engineering sample in use:

The previous series of hybrid processors on the Zen 2 (Renoir) architecture were distributed exclusively through OEMs of off-the-shelf systems. However, in some markets the chips still appeared as a separate product, albeit unofficially.

Engineering samples of the eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 5700G on Zen 3 have appeared on eBay for $500

Engineering samples of the eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 5700G on Zen 3 have appeared on eBay for $500

AMD has yet to officially confirm its intentions to release Ryzen 5000G (Cezanne) series hybrid desktop processors, but engineering samples of these chips are already available for purchase on the eBay marketplace. A seller from Hong Kong under the pseudonym hugohk is offering the Ryzen 7 5700G model for $499.

The processor uses the marking 100-000000263-30. An engineering sample Ryzen 7 5700G with the same model number made headlines a month earlier. The chip is based on Zen 3 architecture and belongs to the Cezanne family, which last January introduced the Ryzen 5000U and Ryzen 5000H series mobile processors. The desktop Ryzen 7 5700G uses 8 physical cores and 16 virtual threads and has a clock speed of up to 4.45 GHz.

Initially, the seller indicated that the APU contained Radeon Vega integrated graphics, but since there was no driver for it, he recommended to use the processor only as part of a system with a discrete graphics gas pedal. He later added that a driver was available and he was ready to provide it to the customer. In addition, he recommended to use AMD X570 and B550 chipset-based motherboards for the chip. Older X470 and B450 chipsets will not work with it & ; you have to wait for the BIOS update.

The vendor has published screenshots of the CPU-Z program, which apparently we have already seen in early January. According to the seller, the screenshots were provided by its customers, which may indicate that all the engineering samples of Ryzen 5000G processors are distributed from the same source. According to the CPU-Z test, the Ryzen 7 5700G engineering sample is 20% and 16% faster than the Ryzen 7 3700X based on the Zen 2 architecture.

AMD prepares desktop Ryzen PRO 5000G - octa-core model is marked in CPU-Z

AMD prepares desktop Ryzen PRO 5000G - octa-core model is marked in CPU-Z

One of the users of Chinese forum Chiphell shared CPU-Z screenshot which confirms AMD plans to release AMD Ryzen PRO 5000G (Cezanne) series hybrid desktop processors for Socket AM4 socket. According to VideoCardz resource, this picture may indicate AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5750G model specifications.

According to Chinese enthusiast, who provided the screenshot, AMD is not likely to release Ryzen PRO 5000G processors to official retailers. Instead, these processors will be intended exclusively for computer manufacturers (OEM) and system integrators.Recall that the manufacturer did the same with the previous generation of Ryzen 4000G (Renoir) series chips, which did not prevent them from appearing in retail stores. The illuminated sample of Ryzen PRO 5000G series has 8 cores and 16 virtual threads. The configuration of cores implies that we are looking at the Ryzen 7 PRO 5750G, as the younger Ryzen 5 PRO 5650G should offer 6 cores and 12 virtual threads.

The processor is not compatible with PCI Gen 4.0 interface and is equipped with Radeon graphics core, but Vega generation, not Navi, as many would like. Against the background of full desktop chips Ryzen 5000 series (Vermeer) hybrid chip has a smaller amount of Level 3 cache memory. However, this information is not new, because there are already on sale laptops based on mobile Ryzen 5000 (Cezanne) chips, which are based on the same crystals. Image source also reported that the latest version of the BIOS for ASUS Crosshair VIII motherboard does not have full support for this chip. It requires a firmware version based on newer AGESA 1.2.0.0 microcode. The Infinity Fabric Bus (FCLK) frequency of this sample is 2300 MHz, but some engineering samples of Ryzen 5000G hybrid processors have FCLK frequency up to 2500 MHz, which allows for DDR4 memory with effective frequency up to 5000 MHz. As for the clock speed range, the source says the processor can automatically overclock up to 4.05 GHz on all cores, but the owner was able to manually overclock it to 4.75 GHz. It is also noted that the chip comes with the same cooler as the Ryzen 7 5800X processor.

Mobile AMD Ryzen 7 5800U has been found to have multi-threaded performance issues in synthetic tests

Mobile AMD Ryzen 7 5800U has been found to have multi-threaded performance issues in synthetic tests

Network sources have shared performance results of AMD Ryzen 7 5800U mobile processor in GPU-Z and Cinebench synthetic tests. Recall that Ryzen 5000 series chips on the Zen 3 architecture will be presented next week. It will include both power efficient Ryzen 5000U models with limited to 15W TDP, and high-performance Ryzen 5000H with a claimed power consumption level of 45W.

The Ryzen 7 5800U belongs to the first category of the aforementioned processors. This processor belongs to the Cezanne family and is built on the Zen 3 architecture. It should also be added that the Ryzen 5000 series will include chips from the Lucienne family, built on the Zen 2 architecture, which are Refresh versions of the current mobile Renoir (Ryzen 4000). The Ryzen 7 5800U has 8 cores and 16 virtual threads and runs in the 2.0-4.4GHz frequency range. Compared to its predecessor Renoir series, the novelty on Zen 3 gets twice the amount of cache memory of Level 3, 16 Mbytes. In addition, the Ryzen 7 5800U has 200 MHz higher base and Boost frequency compared to its predecessor. In CPU-Z synthetic test, Ryzen 7 5800U processor scored 592 and 3812 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded tests respectively. Interestingly, in the first case, the performance of AMD's mobile chip was even higher than the current flagship desktop Intel Core i9-10900K, which scores 584 points in the same test. The red's multi-threaded performance, on the other hand, is disappointing. Even the current Ryzen 7 4800U scores over 5000 points in this test. Whether this is due to problems with simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) or to a "raw" BIOS of the laptop's motherboard, which uses a Zen 3 chip, is unknown. In Cinebench R20, the Ryzen 7 5800U scores 509 points in the single-threaded test and 3,614 points in the multi-threaded test. In the fresh Cinebench R23 shows scores of 1311 and 9326 in the respective tests. Thus Ryzen 7 5800U is 6% faster in single-threaded Ryzen 7 4800U but slower in multi-threaded test.

AMD Cezanne's Zen 3 mobile processor chip image has been published - the chip is larger than Renoir's

An image of AMD's Cezanne hybrid processor chip has been made available to VideoCardz resource. Recall that new mobile chips series Ryzen 5000 will be presented next week. The series will include chips that use two architectures at once: Zen 3 (Cezanne) and Zen 2 (Lucienne).

According to the source, Cezanne APU will be able to offer up to 8 compute cores and 16 virtual threads, as well as up to 8 Radeon graphics cores, like the current generation of mobile Renoir (Ryzen 4000). The total number of PCIe lanes will not change either - Cezanne will get 20 lanes. The mobile Renoir (Ryzen 4000U/H) has only 8 of the 20 PCIe lanes dedicated to discrete graphics, the desktop Ryzen 4000G has 16. Earlier it was rumored that the next generation of Cezanne processors would receive PCIe 4.0 interface support. Whether it will appear in AMD's chips, which will be unveiled next week, remains a mystery as well. A quick comparison of Renoir and Cezanne chip sizes indicates that the area of the latter is larger. VideoCardz calculates that the new processors should have 175 mm2, which is 19 mm2 more than the Renoir (156 mm2). The increase in chip area is due to the use of slightly larger Zen 3 cores, as well as a larger L3 cache block. According to available information, AMD's upcoming next-generation mobile APUs will get 16 Mbytes of L3 cache memory, which is double the size of the current Renoir. The announcement of the Ryzen 5000 hybrid mobile processors is very likely to take place on January 12. The series will include both energy-efficient Ryzen 5000U (Zen 2) chips and high-performance Ryzen 5000H (Zen 3) gaming models. And only the latter will be able to offer a significant performance boost over the Renoir processors.

AMD's two-year plan for APU revealed: an integrated version of Navi 2 as early as 2021

Twitter informant under the pseudonym _rogame, who has provided many credible leaks over the past year, today revealed details about AMD's future hybrid processors. These details fill in the gaps in the previously known data regarding AMD's plans.

According to this information, AMD is expected to release the first APU with Navi 2 graphics next year, known by the codename VanGogh. This processor will include cores with Zen 2 architecture and will feature a TDP value of just 9W. As noted by _rogame itself, these will be high-end solutions. However, the focus will be on the Cezanne series, which will offer processors with Zen 3 cores and integrated graphics. Curiously, unlike VanGogh, these solutions will still include the rather old Vega graphics.

AMD will also release updated hybrid processors with Zen 3 cores and 6nm process technology by the end of next year. Codenamed Rembrandt, these APUs will replace Cezanne and get an updated Navi 2 integrated graphics. Rumors about the company's 6nm chips are not new, although AMD has never officially confirmed it.

The informant also gave a brand new codename for Barcelo: supposedly it will be an update of Cezanne-U and a replacement for Lucienne-U. Recall: the Ryzen 5000U series is expected to include both Zen 3-based Cezanne-U APUs and Zen 2-based Lucienne-U. It looks like AMD may continue a similar trend.

Also Dragon Crest is called a simple upgrade & ; VanGogh with the same Zen 2 cores and Navi 2 graphics. Finally, the upcoming Pollock hybrid processors will be relatively simple 14nm solutions with first generation Zen cores and Vega graphics, but with a TDP of only 4.5W. AMD is set to unveil its Ryzen 5000 processors, codenamed Cezanne-H and Cezanne-U, at CES 2021 next January. Some may still remember AMD's earlier piecemeal internal slide published by the MebiuW whistleblower. It remains incomplete, but the cropped letter D is an indirect confirmation of the Dragon Crest codename mentioned.

Coming powerful mobile processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H on Zen 3 noted in Geekbench

Coming powerful mobile processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H on Zen 3 noted in Geekbench

Coming powerful mobile processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H on Zen 3 noted in Geekbench

Internet detective Tum_Apisak found in the synthetic test database Geekbench 5 the first mention of an 8-core and 16-threaded mobile processor Ryzen 7 5800H. This chip will belong to a new series of high-performance mobile APUs Ryzen 5000H, which will be used in gaming notebooks. The release of the latter is to take place next year.

Unlike energy efficient chips Ryzen 5000U, which will be represented by models on AMD Zen 3 (Cezanne) and Zen 2 (Lucienne) architectures, the series of processors Ryzen 5000H will consist exclusively of chips of Cezanne family on the new architecture Zen 3.

The Geekbench 5 database indicates that the base clock frequency of the Ryzen 7 5800H is 3.2 GHz, which is 300 MHz higher than that of the Ryzen 7 4800H, which belongs to the current Renoir family. It may also be noted that the new processor has twice the amount of Layer 3 cache memory; 16 Mbytes versus 8 Mbytes of Ryzen 7 4800H.

The very low performance result of Ryzen 7 5800H in the Geekbench 5 test is due to artificially limited settings of the maximum frequency of the processor engineering sample in a certain Lenovo laptop. In most tests, the chip was running at a frequency of about 500 MHz. The processor family identifier (Family 25) indicates that the chip is actually built on Zen 3 architecture.
