Ryzen 3 3250U

Ryzen 3 3250U

AMD Ryzen 3 3250U Review

This is a newly launched hybrid mobile CPU from AMD. Launch date: 1/6/2020. As the name Ryzen 3 3250U indicates, this is actually a very close model to the previously released Ryzen 3 3200U, but, of course, there are some differences. For example, Ryzen 3 3250U comes with a lower max temperature. And unlike the Ryzen 3 3200U, the core architecture of 3250U is Dali. Likewise, the microarchitecture of this model is Zen but not Zen 2. We also have a 14nm design for Ryzen 3 3250U.

The supported memory type for the 3250U is DDR4-3200MHz. We see dual-channel support, as well. And since it is a hybrid processor, which is called an APU, it has an integrated graphics card onboard.

The graphics specs of the Ryzen 3250U is as following:

    Number of Graphics cores: 3

    Model: AMD Radeon Graphics

And the main specs are, of course, the core count and the frequencies. We can say this is a relatively humble CPU, but as it is built for laptop platforms, it does what it should for your daily tasks. AMD Ryzen 3 3250U is a dual-core mobile CPU with 4 threads. There’s an extension called SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading Technology) which allows a stable and smooth multi-core performance.

The base clock speed for the 3250U is 2.6 GHz. Besides, the max boost clock speed is 3.5 GHz. The Ryzen 3 3250U has another important technology to prevent unintended ups and downs while the boost is active. It is the famous Precision Boost that facilitates more stable boosting.

Ryzen 3 4300U

Ryzen 3 4300U

AMD Ryzen 3 4300U Review - A Strong Mid-Range APU by AMD

The new AMD Ryzen 3 4300U processor delivers strong performance for mobile devices with quad-core power and Vega's built-in graphics. And all this is combined with the energy efficiency of Renoir's advanced 7nm core.

AMD Ryzen 3 4300U is a 4-core processor. Yet, in terms of mobile CPUs it has a satisfying base clock speed of 2.7 GHz. and a max. Boost speed of 3.7 GHz. It supports dual channel DDR4-3200 and LPDDR4-4266 memory. Level 3 cache size is 4 MB. TDP for the 4300U and its built-in components is 15 watts, although the manufacturer of a particular device can change it within 10 W - 25 W. The latest Zen 2 architecture has enabled the Ryzen 3 4300U to deliver performance at near the Ryzen 5 3500U level. Considering it is a mid-range mobile CPU, the Ryzen 3 4300U has sufficient processing power for many demanding tasks.

Graphics Performance of AMD Ryzen 3 4300U’s Integrated Radeon RX Vega 5 Graphics Card

In addition to 4 cores and 4 threads, the 4300U also includes a Radeon RX Vega 5 video processor. If we talk about the capabilities of an integrated graphics core, then Ryzen 3 4300U is approximately equal to Ryzen 5 3500U. Compared to the previous generation Radeon RX Vega 6 (Raven Ridge), Radeon RX Vega 5 has significantly increased its frequency, however, the graphics performance is still lower than Radeon RX Vega 6.

Ryzen 7 4700U

Ryzen 7 4700U

Ryzen 7 4700U

AMD Ryzen 7 4700U Review

The Ryzen 7 4700U is a mobile processor from AMD that was released in January, 2020 and is currently on sale. Thus, it belongs to the Ryzen 7 family and is built on the 7nm Zen 2 Renoir architecture.  Therefore, the processor uses AMD Socket FP6 and Gen 3 PCI express controllers.

The model name alone gives us a hint that the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U is most likely the successor to the existing Ryzen 7 3700U. Therefore, we can say, In the current product line, the Ryzen 7 4700U occupies a pre-flagship position, and it is likely to compete with the Core i7-10710U. Thus, in terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U outperforms the Ryzen 3 3700U by 17.9%, which is quite impressive. Only one generation has changed, and productivity has increased by more than 15%.

For this octa-core Ryzen 7, The base frequency is 2 GHz, and the maximum boost reaches up to 4.1 GHz, there is no SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading)  support, thus the processor can only handle 8 threads. The TDP is at 15W, but can be adjusted between 10 and 25W by laptop manufacturers. Many tech enthusiasts say that the most interesting part of the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U is the new Zen 2 core architecture. Compared to the 3000-series APU, the new product offers both twice the number of cores and threads, and an increased L3 cache parameter. In addition, Zen 2 cores run much faster than Zen +, which should lead to significant performance gains. Besides, the chip also includes Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics and dual-channel DDR4-3200 RAM and economical LPDDR4-4266 memory along with 8 MB of L3 cache.

We already mentioned that the Ryzen 7 4700U has integrated Vega 7 graphics. The built-in graphics’ core count is 7 at 1600Mhz frequency rate. It is a seemingly powerful graphics unit considering it is only an integrated one. However, Vega 7 performance is very dependent on the TDP of the processor. Therefore the max. available frequency and the cooling are also important factors affecting the Vega 7 performance. And, of course, there is the RAM. Thus, you can expect the maximum performance from this GPU when using the fast dual channel DDR4-3200. Also, the Vega has many innovations over the Polaris. This architecture is compatible with DirectX 12 Feature Level 12_1. In terms of performance, Vega 7 should be performing slightly lower than the RX Vega 8 from the mobile Ryzen 3000 and Ryzen 2000, sometimes they may perform the same.

Gaming Performance

AMD Radeon Vega 7 can handle modern, high-end games only at low graphics settings and low display resolutions. Relatively lighter games like FIFA 20 and Dirt Rally 2.0 should run smoothly on high graphics settings at 1080p. We can’t say the same thing for the games like the Witcher 3, Read Dead Redemption 2 or CoD MW2019.

Ryzen 7 4800H

Ryzen 7 4800H

AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Review

Ryzen 7 4800H is a new mobile processor from AMD, which in the near future, is likely to become one of the most popular processors of Ryzen H-series, on different notebook & laptop models.

The Ryzen 7 4800H has 8 cores and 16 streams running at 2.9 GHz (4.2 GHz in Turbo mode). The 45W TDP can be reduced to 35W and increased to 54W depending on the running tasks. The size of the third level cache is 8 Mb. Inside the Ryzen 7 4800H is an integrated video card with 7 graphics cores operating at 1600 MHz clock frequency. However, it is unlikely for R7 4800H to be installed in laptops without an additional graphics card. In fact, we see an example of this from ASUS; Ryzen 7 4800H used on the TUF Gaming A15, which comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a discrete GeForce graphics card. (System setup may slightly vary by region).

Performance

Various benchmark tests suggest that the Ryzen 4000 processors handle the high-load very well. Therefore, the Ryzen 7 4800H is about 2% faster in multi-threaded mode than the older Ryzen 9 4900HS, yet 2% slower in single-core. So, in terms of clock speed, we can say those two Ryzen 4000 are performing similarly. In general, a laptop built around the Ryzen 7 4800H would probably perform well on many popular, high-end games, this is, especially when the system is supported by an additional high-end mobile GPU other than the R7 APU. This kind of system would also be performing excellently for daily, simple work and professional office works.

Ryzen 7 4800HS

Ryzen 7 4800HS

Ryzen 7 4800HS

AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS Review

AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS aims to satisfy the needs of relatively smaller laptop designs. Since the H series was designed to operate on larger mobile systems, we can say the HS CPUs are for thinner laptops, in terms of mostly physical size. It is of course related to the overall performance of the device. So, for the users seeking a new laptop, it is okay to ask this question; Is Ryzen 7 4800HS good for gaming?

In the market, we see ROG Zephyrus G15 by ASUS, as an example of R7 4800HS gaming laptops. And it has been labeled as being a slim type laptop.

Zen 2 - 7nm - Renoir - Octa-Core

Ryzen 7 4800HS has 8 cores with a base clock speed of 2.9 GHz and a max turbo speed of 4.2 GHz. The SMT technology allows the CPU to work with 16 threads. 7nm design helps it to be more responsive and quick compared to the older models. 4800HS consumes less energy than it’s cousin 4800H. (35W - 45W) The quite good mobile Ryzen 3000 processors are far behind now that we have a novel architecture and higher core-count. Overall, the R7 4800HS can handle any contemporary applications and games with ease.

In addition to eight cores, the R7 4800HS has an integrated Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics processor. Which means, it is an APU that would not need an additional GPU to operate. But laptop producers may use separate GPUs to get better graphics performance. Besides, the 4800HS has a built-in dual-channel memory controller that supports DDR4-3200 and LPDDR4-4266. The L3 cache for the 4800HS is 8 MB. The rated TDP for the 4800HS is 35 watts.

The base frequency of the processor is 1.8 GHz. In auto overclocking mode, it climbs up to 4.2 GHz. The integrated graphics chipset uses Vega 8 units operating at 1750 MHz. The TDP rate of the processor is 15 W (depending on the load this value may slightly change).

Being an APU, this processor was designed to meet certain expectations of the laptop users. Therefore, it is a powerful mobile CPU for thin laptops. In fact, U-Series are designed to work with “ultrathin consumer laptops”. We see Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14 (depending on the region the product name might change to IdeaPad 14) laptop as a good example of R7 4800U utilization.

Ryzen 7 4800U offers a powerful daily-use experience. As the mobility of the laptops is on top of the priorities, the CPU is also designed to consume less energy to offer a longer battery life. Radeon Vega 8 and R7 4800U together provide a responsive and swift performance for multiple tasks. You can handle your office jobs or you can entertain yourself by watching high-quality movies. AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS Review - Renoir APU Meets The Expectations

It is fair to say that Ryzen 9 4900HS is a breakthrough for laptop CPUs with integrated graphics. This model, in particular, amazed the users with its graphics chipset.

First, let's quickly share the technical details. The Ryzen 9 4900HS processor is basically an 8/16 chip with 4 MB L2 and 8 MB L3 cache. It can accelerate the speed up to 3.8 GHz with all its cores, it also has 8 Vega CUs operating at 1750 MHz under 35 watts TDP. The support for the RAM is up to 3200 MHz for DDR4. And it climbs to 4266 MHz with LPDDR4 type memory.

In the Cinebench R15 multi-core tests shared by different users, it’s seen that a score of 1894 is achieved by Ryzen 9 4900HS. Therefore, it performs noticeably better than the Core i9-9880H which achieved 1155 in the same tests. Besides, even when the Core i9-9880H doubles its TDP from 45 watts to 90 watts, the point reaches 1648, still falls behind the Ryzen 9 4900HS.

On the other hand, AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS with integrated 8-core Vega 8 GPU delivers nearly double the gaming performance of integrated graphics in 10th Gen Intel Core mobile chips. In various benchmarks tests, Vega 8 turned out to be even more productive than the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 video card. AMD's solution produced a higher frame rate in GTA V, Civilization VI, CS: GO, and Gears 5. Interestingly, in Civilization Vega 8 achieved to be almost on the same level as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q. With such innovation in integrated graphics, AMD immediately attracted laptop gamers.

Ryzen 9 4900HS also gets approval from many users with its single-core performance. Much everyday work depends on single-core power such as office programs and browsers. Likewise, professional applications like CADs, don’t really need multi-threaded performance.

Ryzen 9 4900U

AMD Ryzen 9 4900U Review

    The AMD Ryzen 9 4900U APU model is an expected 8-core and 16-thread unit mobile processor. There    were some rumours about this specific model but it is still not available on the real markets. Yet, the rumours goes like that;

The processor has 1.8GHz base speed and 4.3GHz turbo speed. Besides, it has an integrated graphics chipset; Radeon Vega 8. The Vega 8 unit has 512 stream processors and 1750MHz clock speeds. The new APU model achieves better results in double digits than the Ryzen 7 4800U unit. Benchmark tests that around the world show that things are heating up in the 15W segment. The new APU model, AMD Ryzen 9 4900U, will compete with the Intel Core i7-10710U and Core i7-1065G7 processors, in that sense.

Innovate to Compete

Recently, there has been a fierce competition between AMD and Intel in the laptop market. Following AMD's release of the new generation Ryzen U and Ryzen H APU series, Intel also launched its tenth generation mobile processors. It's AMD's turn to show some innovation with Ryzen 9 4900U.

It turns out that the differences between processors will be quite modest. By the way, from the point of view of embedded graphics, there can't be a big difference either, since the Renoir crystal has eight second-generation Vega processing units, all of which are already involved in the Ryzen 7 4800U.

We can only hope that the Ryzen 9 4900U uses the highest quality chips, which can provide not only a higher maximum frequency, but also a higher average. In other words, it is possible to work with higher frequency under a larger load. Then, in general, the new processor will really be more productive than the current Ryzen 7 4800U. However, even if the frequency is higher, it is clearly not much. That is, chasing Ryzen 9 4900U, if you already have Ryzen 7 4800U will not make much sense.

It’s been a while since the rumours on this particular model appeared online, but there’s no official launch of a product named Ryzen 9 4900U in the market.

AMD Ryzen 3 2200U Review

Ryzen 3 2200U is one of the mobile processors that is used on budget laptop systems. Even if people know what “budget laptop” means, they still want to have some degree of gaming performance. Thus, they ask questions like “Is Ryzen 3 2200U Good For Gaming?” when they seek advice.

    Now, let’s talk about R3 2200U

Sufficient APU For Regular Use

We know that AMD has a very powerful mobile APU CPUs available in the market. Yet, AMD Ryzen 3 200U is not one of them. Since R3 2200U is an entry-level mobile CPU, the graphics card aspect seemed relatively weaker. It offers the GPU power enough to run low-end games. With that being, mid-range games would eat all the available power, especially for the graphics side. But still, you can play a good portion of mid-range games at low/mid specs. However, some laptops carry additional GPUs along with R3 2200U APU. This kind of hardware configuration depends on the producers. Therefore, we have laptop models with Radeon R5 M420 or Radeon 535 Graphics. In this case, you can play even some high-end games like GTA 5. Still, you should use low settings.

All of the information above indicates that this CPU offers a quality user experience for daily-use. It is an affordable and reliable choice for office works, watching HD movies, surfing on the internet, etc. And you can still run many games with stability.

Specs

First of all, we see a Vega 3 integrated Radeon GPU on-board. As we mentioned, this gives you the entry-level graphics performance. It has 3 graphics cores. And the support for DirectX 12 Technology enhances the display performance.

On the processor side, we have a dual-core architecture with 4 threads. The base clock speed is 2.5 GHz. and boost capability is up to 3.4 GHz for this model. You can see that the CPU is also placed at the entry-level. DDR 4 is supported.

AMD Ryzen 3 3300U Review - Expectations

To be honest, some mobile CPUs and APUs of AMD achieved to become market changer players for laptop gaming. But, is this CPU one of them? Is Ryzen 3 3300U good for gaming?

First of all, it is not fair to say that this CPU is designed for mobile gaming. But we know that “gaming” can sometimes have a broader meaning. Ryzen 3 3300U is not good for high-performance gaming, obviously. Actually, it’s mostly used in the laptops that are designed to be low-profile and cheap. We generally see the low-end systems benefiting from the Ryzen 3 3300U. For example; There are some “Mini PCs” built around it.

Affordability

Since R3 3300U is not that fancy, there is a huge advantage coming from its price. You may have one of those Mini PCs or laptops at around 400 US Dollars. Therefore, you get a very good daily-use computer for a relatively cheaper price. We focused mainly on the gaming abilities of today's CPUs but people still need some moderate systems. Some users use separate systems for their office work, daily-use, and gaming. So, paying less does not necessarily mean purchasing an incompetent product if the product is designed to offer what you really need. In this case, it might be an extra computer to carry around for fundamental office work, school papers, etc.

As long as it meets your expectations from a computer system, it is a good quality CPU with an integrated Radeon Vega 6 Graphics card. It means you don’t need to pay extra for a GPU. That’s why it seems like a real price/performance CPU.

AMD Ryzen 5 3550H Review Budget Laptop For Gaming

Zen+ technology which we see on the AMD Ryzen 5 3550H, has been a real game changer for the budget gaming laptop market so far. AMD achieved to compete successfully against the Intel, again. Before AMD came to the scene with the new APUs, the processors like the Intel Core i5-8300H were leading the whole segment of budget laptops. Besides offering good APU performance, AMD has built decent partnerships with GeForce. This also gave the opportunity to shift the attention of many users from Intel to AMD, in terms of budget gaming laptops.

AMD Ryzen 5 3550H is one of the good examples of a hot market competition. Before Zen+ architecture, the company has achieved way better performance than Intel’s Kaby Lake-R laptops. Back then in 2016, the Zen architecture even succeeded to beat Whiskey Lake-U on many different occasions, in terms of integrated GPU dynamics. Namely the UHD Graphics 620 fell behind this AMD APU’s at the time.

When the year 2019 arrived, AMD finally introduced the Zen+ 35 W models to the gaming laptop market. This ones was obviously faster in terms of core design and frequency range. The introduction of Zen+ mobile CPUs again put the AMD products out front compared to the Intel’s Kaby Lake-H and Coffee Lake-H models. Note that the Kaby Lake-H and Coffee Lake-H was highly dominating the gaming laptop market globally.

AMD Ryzen 5 3580U Review - Makes Things Thinner

Before the AMD Ryzen 5 3580U, we have already talked about one of the siblings Ryzen 7 3780U. Being both Ryzen models, they belong to the same product family. Yet, they also have another thing in common. They both are designed to serve in Microsoft Surface Edition laptops. AMD and Microsoft aimed to build a thin notebook. The main objective here was offering the easiest mobility to the customers. But as always, there must be some degree of performance provided.

Innovation

When you want to achieve a mission like this, you need to use alternative technologies. Technology enthusiasts would instantly know what was this “alternative” by only looking at the name of the product. The AMD Ryzen 5 3580U is like any other “U” model AMD processors. U models utilize a hybrid technology called APU (Accelerated Processing Unit). This “hybrid” technology combines the CPU and the GPU on literally the same body. So the architecture of Ryzen 5 3580U is designed to perform as both a CPU and graphics card unit. This choice for the Microsoft Surface laptops is of course related to the objectives like designing the light and thin laptops for better mobility. Besides, since AMD does a great job offering decent performance for APU user experience, we must note that it performs very well despite its seemingly weak physical structure.

Specifications

Firstly, we would like to make it clear that this product originally belongs to the “AMD Ryzen™ 5 Mobile Processors with Radeon™ Vega 9 Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition” line. So, you should see the Ryzen 5 3580U on Microsoft Surface laptops with very similar specifications. That may vary according to the company's protocols. So we just wanted to keep it simple and share the key features of the processor.

Thus, besides having 4 cores and 8 threads for the CPU and 9 cores for the GPU, Ryzen 5 3580U is equipped with some useful technologies that are unique to AMD. AMD FreeSync Technology is one of the most important ones. It prevents the screen from tearing and stuttering especially when a gaming task is initiated. Ryzen 5 3580U also supports the futuristic technology DirectX 12. So you feel secure even with this integrated Vega graphics unit.

AMD Ryzen 7 3780U - Microsoft Surface Edition

When you see a laptop carrying an AMD Ryzen 7 3780U in it, you must know it’s one of the best options. When it comes to laptops, the expectations and purposes may vary a lot. Because first of all, you need mobilization, clearly. Second, you should have the mobility in the easiest way possible. On the other hand, you’ll probably need a good performance nowadays. Even the YouTube videos are now demanding for your CPU and GPU sometimes. Besides, everyone has at least a small game that they are into. Or sometimes some game of quality we like to play on our laptops. And that’s where the Ryzen 7 3780U comes in.

Architecture

What allows a CPU to make everything I listed above possible?

An integrated graphics card. For Ryzen 3780U it’s called Radeon RX Vega 11. Of course, your producers or enthusiasts can use this CPU with a separate GPU but it’s kind of the opposite of what is intended by AMD. They wanted to build a CPU that is able to carry the user for the vast majority of the tasks. In short, they wanted a compact, hybrid unit to do most of the work for a laptop. And this particular CPU model has been designed to serve in Microsoft Surface laptops. It is normally called the Ryzen 7 3780U Microsoft Surface Edition. The design of this specific laptop is ultra-thin. So when we put all this info together, we can say that the mobility aspect of this particular system is one step ahead.

We see Zen+ core architecture with 4 cores and 8 threads, on this processor. There’s a base clock speed of 2.3 GHz and a turbo speed of 4.0 GHz. It has the Precision Boost technology which enables the processor to perform better, especially when the boost is activated.

Radeon RX Vega 11 (when integrated) adds a good quality to a CPU. You don’t use a separate GPU but you can still run some of the really demanding tasks without a problem. They also supported this GPU with a useful technology like the AMD FreeSync, when it comes to gaming. Another good thing, especially for the future, long-term use, is the compatibility with DirectX 12 API.

AMD Ryzen 3 2300U Review - Not Only A CPU

Probably the most fascinating specification of the AMD Ryzen APU line is the integrated graphics card unit. The AMD Ryzen 3 2300U is one of the decent examples of this unprecedented technology. For some of us, the idea of an integrated GPU right on the CPU itself is still kind of strange. Many users think this kind of technology would never give “the performance” as we understand it nowadays. But just like with the Zen core architecture, AMD keeps surprising us by bringing this revolutionary technology into the market so successfully.

Let’s give some significant details concerning the AMD Ryzen 3 2300U.

Because it is a hybrid kind of CPU, the most important specification would be Vega technology. It’s the base technology behind this APU utility. Thus, the Ryzen 3 2300U is using the six-core Radeon Vega 6 Graphics to offer the display performance. It operates at 1100 MHz graphics frequency. Other than that, there’s an extension preventing any kind of stuttering and tearing on the screen while you are playing the games. The technology is called AMD FreeSync Technology. And the APU unit supports DirectX 12.

Price Performance Ryzen 3 2300U the APU Miracle

The AMD Ryzen 3 2300U has 4 cores with a base speed of 2.0 GHz. But, as usual, boost capability makes it higher up to 3.4 GHz. The system memory type of the processor is DDR4. Overall, when you get a notebook like HP 17-CA0013, the AMD Ryzen 3 2300U CPU makes the system more efficient in terms of price/performance. Because basically, you are not paying for a GPU. The APU technology comes relatively cheaper than the ordinary CPU + GPU models. Thus, it is quite sufficient for average daily laptop users for many reasons given above.
