Kioxia has announced the world's first working prototype 2TB microSDXC memory card.
The prototype was built with BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and an in-house developed controller, and is the highest capacity permitted by the standard.
More than a decade after the SD Association released the SDXC card specification, no SDXC cards have been produced to date with capacities up to 2TB.
Kioxia's prototypes are based on 16 memory chips of 1TB, with a maximum thickness of 0.8mm in the mount area, making them a good choice for high-capacity storage.
The company expects to launch mass production of microSDXC cards with 2TB capacity as early as 2023.
Approximate retail price has not been announced yet.
