Synology DS1821+ eight-bay storage system features AMD Ryzen V1500B processor

Synology is preparing a new network attached storage (NAS) solution for the enterprise sector. The DS1821+ is a desktop form factor based on the AMD hardware platform represented by the Ryzen Embedded V1500B processor.

This chip contains four processing cores with the ability to process up to eight instruction threads simultaneously. The clock frequency is 2.2 GHz. In the new storage the processor works in tandem with 4 Gbytes of DDR4 RAM (expandable to 32 Gbytes). The Synology DS1821+ can accommodate eight drives in 3.5 or 2.5-inch SATA 3.0 form factors with « hot» replacement. In addition, there are two slots for fast NVMe SSDs in size M.2 2280.

The storage has two eSATA connectors and four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, one of which is on the front panel. There is also a PCIe 3.0 x8.0 x8.nbsp expansion slot; four 1Gbe RJ45 ports are responsible for network connections. The device has the dimensions 166 × 343 × 243mm and weighs about 6kg. The cooling system has two 120mm fans. The price of the Synology DS1821+ is forecasted at $1,300;
